New Look Doesn’t Help Twitter Tweet Away Denial of Service Attack
August 6th, 2009 | by supperman |a few days (weeks? i’m not a twitter junkie) ago Twitter, the growing microblog site, changed the layout and look of their website. I have to say, I really like the new look. The colors, the imagery so fresh and web 2.0 ish. It’s like… it’s like a breath of fresh air until I hear someone mention Twitter on the news again. The insane popularity reminds me of when everyone in the media was on their knees trying to give a bj to MySpace’s founder and everyone’s first social networking pal “Tom” (also still a millionaire and my one true love.. tom I will marry you as long is it’s not legally binding and i get half the cash).
but this morning went like many others for the ‘Fail Whale’ loving company. Twitter got smacked by a denial of service (DDoS) attack and was shut down for hours leaving ‘i-think-im-too-trendy-for-tv’ internet douches without the ability to get the latest breaking news, leaving many frustrated and wanting to log into facebook.. but oh wait.. they were up and down all morning under a similar attack. Reading Twitter under #ddos and #isuckatlife you can read many stories about how users were out of touch with the world and didn’t know how to start their day off. Since Twitter started getting media love 6 months ago there have been few outages that lasted very long, but this isn’t Twitters first time going down.. it sorta happens a lot. That’s why they called it a Fail Whale people.
i know that’s heartbreaking news for mega-doucher-no-lifers like Alison Koski. Here is what she told an AP reporter:
“I had to Google search Twitter to find out what was going on, when normally my Twitter feed gives me all the breaking news I need,” said Alison Koski, a New York public-relations manager. She added she felt “completely lost” without Twitter.
